PARISH NEWS

WHO IS SAINT HERMAN OF ALASKA

St. Herman was a monk, missionary and miracle worker who brought the Orthodox Faith from Russia to the native peoples of Alaska in the late 18th C.  He taught the Gospel of Christ and defended these people from exploitation by the Russian traders.

As St. Herman and the other Alaskan saints met their converts in their own culture and language, so our parish seeks to bring the Orthodox faith to the people of communities around us. For this reason we worship in  the local language of English.

Our parish has been serving in the Lower Mainland since 1976 in a private chapel. Now by the grace of God  and by the generosity and hard work of our members and friends we have completed a new building truly suited to Orthodox worship.
